Supplier performance indicates how a hospital’s suppliers are performing against a set of key performance indicators or KPIs. For example, “On-Time Delivery” percentage refers to the number of deliveries made on-time divided by the total number of deliveries by the specific supplier x 100%. This calculation can be benchmarked against other suppliers to see which suppliers are performing in a timely manner and those that are creating issues. In context, getting supplies in a timely fashion is important for patient throughput in high cost areas like the OR. In a past study, one hospital determined that 85% of its OR delays were equipment related. Outside of potential delays, underperforming suppliers often cost hospital staff extra time in managing the supplier and/or contingency suppliers.
